Parenting, something people try so hard to get right and can often get it so wrong but are you winning at it? If they are fed, warm, clean and happy the only other thing you need to do is create memories they will cherish forever and amazingly they are completely free. Sometimes all you need is a bit of nonsense and a huge lump of laugh out loud giggles, that way you know that you are definitely winning at this parenting lark and you're an awesome parent...

Nudging your children towards your own musical taste...

Early music education/intervention is a must if you don't want to go mad listening to shit like One Direction on repeat daily. Starting them early by playing your music and dancing with them regularly is all you need to do to start them off. If you try and fail, because many do, hard times are ahead but you still win as they will no doubt listen to it when old school is cool again, albeit when they're in their teens *passes gin and ear muffs*

Old school jokes...

"Mum, Mum" "yeah" "Smells!!" *followed by extreme laughter*. Old school jokes like this are a must for a happy nonsensical household, especially if you have boys (other genders are available). They are timeless classics and can set your child on their own road to a great and stupid sense of humour from a very early age... and I think you'll agree a sense of humour is an essential part of life and these are things they can pass down for generations creating smiles for years. Even the odd funny face is enough to make them roll around laughing, give it a go.

Making them roll their eyes with embarrassment...

Parent jokes, awful but the ones you always remember growing up. As a parent you are meant to make their eyes roll with stupid and embarrassingly bad jokes or stories and so if you are doing this already, you are obviously winning at this parenting game, if you're not, try it, so much satisfaction is had when they are squirming with noises like 'eugghhh, you are so not funny'.

Hiding in cupboards to freak them out...

Winner Winner chicken dinner! Oh come on, when a parent plays with their child they're making memories that'll be remembered forever. Scaring a child and then watching them roll on the floor laughing, takes practice and great precision. Spending a whole 15 minutes hiding in a cupboard or round a corner just to shout boo on your unsuspected child, is definitely time well spent. When they do it back to you however, not so much.

Make them watch films and old cartoons you loved as a kid, just so you can watch them again...

You're defo winning if you're doing this already. Using your child for a trip down memory lane is one of the best parts of being a parent. Sharing memories and watching them laugh out loud as your favourite badly edited, poorly drawn, cartoons from way back, take them to a whole new world of nonsense and they love it because you love it. It's good to share the love.... speaking of sharing the love, feel free to help other parents be awesome by sharing this post!

*Disclosure*

I'm not saying I'm an awesome parent BUT I'm giving it a bloody good go!
